What a better way to celebrate Hump day Wednesday than with an impromptu pizza “par-tay”! After what seems like the longest and gloomiest week ever ( and it’s only half-way!), I figured the best way to kick back while watching my latest Netflix obsessions was to indulge in pizza! Papa John’s just released a new option on their menu – gluten free crusts “crafted from ancient grains; Sorghum, amaranth, teff and quinoa” and I was able to get a taste!
I don’t have much knowledge about gluten and/or gluten-free items, but from my understanding…it is the general name for proteins that are found in wheat. They act as glue that hold food together and help them keep their form and shape. However, for those who are sensitive to gluten, consuming them can cause symptoms of stomach pain, bloating, pain in joints and bones, and etc.
The last time I tried anything gluten-free were some cookies whose texture was questionable so I was a bit skeptic about this new crust. However, as someone who is a HUGE fan of thin & crispy crusts, this was surprisingly pleasant! You can tell that the pizza crust is made with ingredients different from the regular crusts but I personally did not feel like they compromised flavor – I actually prefer this over regular crust.
In order to get a “complete” tasting, I tried out three of Papa John’s combinations and one of my own.
- The Garden Fresh – includes green peppers, mushrooms, onions, Roma tomatoes, and black olives.
- The Pepperoni- includes Premium Pepperoni and real cheese made from Mozzarella.
- Italian Sausage and Pineapple
- The Works – includes Canadian bacon, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and black olives.
